We play mainly to spend a good day together (and a bit of competition!). Rules are made to ensure respect between players and have fun. The « Stade Rugby Touch » is inspired from „Touch“ (see F.I.T.) and „Rugby à 5“ in France. It is also practiced by other club in Vienna: Donau & Celtics.
Basic settings
- Half a rugby pitch (the 5m lines are the try lines)
- 6 players / team.
- Unlimited substitute players & substitutions.
- The substitute enters the field from the middle.
- Mix teams! (Age, sex, level.)
- 1 x 10min game (can vary)
The game
- Attacking team has 6 attempts to score a try.
- Turnover if:
o Ball touches the ground.
o 6 attempts are done.
o Referee decision (sanction)
o Ball goes out of the pitch. - Touch is done with 1 hand using soft contact.
- After a touch, the ball carrier immediately stops his move & put the ball on the ground. If the ball carrier does more than 2 steps, it is a foul and referee can apply a turnover. The half gets the ball between the legs of the touched player (Roll Ball) and initiate the next attempt.
- If the half (first player to pick up the ball after a Roll ball) is touched, it is turnover. Half cannot score.
- Turnovers must be played :
- Where the ball has first landed if the opponent team dropped it.
- Where the fault has been done if the opponent team did a fault or forward pass.
- Defense line must respect a 5m offside marked by the position of the touched player.
- If a defender touches the ball carrier in an offside position. Attempts counter is set back to 0 & referee apply a 5m sanction.
- No passes are allowed after being touched. (“late pass” / “touch and pass” rule)
- No kicks are allowed. Ball kicked or accidentally touching feet is a turnover.
- When the defending team in within their 7 meters, they are ask to move up at reasonable pace towards the offending team. This forces defense to not camp on their line and encourage beautiful tries. Please not that this rule will be ref in an educative manner as some teams have no experience with it.
Back in the game
- The player starts the game with a Tap Ball:
o To start the game (within his half of the pitch)
o After a try (within his half of the pitch)
o After a foul play (Dangerous play, touch and pass, ref. contestation) - The player starts the game with a Roll Ball:
o After a touch
o After a turnover
o After a line-out
o After an off-side
o After half got touched - The “Tap ball” must be a small hit into the ball on the ground (ball must roll a bit)
Misbehavior
No one contests referee decisions or shows disrespect with other players! That‘s in rugby DNA!
- time: The referee reminds the player this principle & sanction the team with 10m.
- time: The player goes out for 2min (yellow card)
- time: The player is out until the end of the game (red card)
